Diamond Roundup: Bobcats Baseball Team Downs Union/A-C Valley, Softball Team Falls To Cranberry

The Clarion Area Bobcat Baseball and Softball teams were in Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference action yesterday (Wednesday, May 10th).

The Baseball team downed homestanding Union/A-C Valley 5-2, while the Softball Team fell to visiting Cranberry 19-5, in five innings at Clarion County Park.

Baseball: Clarion 5 – Union/A-C Valley 2

The Bobcats opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. Union/A-CV answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the third. Clarion scored two more runs in the fifth, to set the 5-2 final.

Noah Harrison had a triple and a single and scored a run for the Bobcats. Tanner Miller singled, drove in two runs and scored a run. Dawson Smail had one hit and an RBI.

Bryce Brinkley and Devon Lauer each had a hit. Matt Alston scored twice, Derek Smail scored one run and Hayden Weber drove in a run.

Dawson Smail started the game and went one inning, striking out one batter and allowing a hit.

Lauer came on in relief and picked up the win, going six innings, with 11 strikeouts, while giving up 6 hits. He gave up 2 runs and issued two walks.

Softball: Cranberry 19 – Clarion 5 (five innings)

Cranberry scored a run in the first, two more in the second and another in the third to take a 4-0 lead. They tacked on another eight in the top of the fourth, but the Cats answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning, making the score 12-3, Cranberry. Seven more Cranberry runs and two Clarion runs in the fifth set the final.

Bri Forrest had two hits and two RBIs for the Bobcats. Alicyn Burford singled and scored two runs.

Hadlee Campbell, Kelsey Best Brinley Kiskadden and J. J. Wilson each singled and scored a run.
