Wildcats Down Chucks 41-13
The Central Clarion Wildcats traveled to Punxsutawney on Friday (September 15th) and came away with a 41-13 victory.
The Chucks scored on their first possession, as they drove the field, mostly on runs from their own thirty yard line. But the touchdown came on a Maddox Hetrick to to Zach Presloid pass from seventeen yards out. The point after failed and Punxsy led 6-0 at 5:43.
The Wildcats answered with a twenty-one yard touchdown strike from quarterback Jase Ferguson to Tommy Smith down the right side, on their next drive. The point after attempt failed and the score was tied 6-all, with 1:22 left in the first.
Central scored on a two yard run through the middle by Braylon Beckwith at 7:06 in the second quarter. Thomas Uckert kicked the PAT and the Wildcats led 13-6.
Dawson Smail recovered a Punxsy fumble on the Chucks’ twenty with 1:42 left in the half. The Bobcats would score on the possession, with Ferguson throwing to Mason Burford for a thirty-yard touchdown, with 8:31 left in the third, with Burford getting behind the defense, at the three and running it the rest of the way. Uckert was good again and Clarion led 20-6. A key play on the drive was a thirty-one yard run by Ferguson.
The Chucks answered three yard run, through the middle by Landon Martz, who carried for the bulk of the drive. Griffin White was successful on the extra-point and Punxsy narrowed Central’s lead to 20-13 with 4:27 left in the third.
With under a minute left in the third and Central Clarion on the Punxsutawney thirty-two, Brady Quinn ran around right end before being forced out of bounds at the seven. Noah Harrison ran the ball to the four as the quarter ended.
Then, on the first play of the final quarter, Ferguson hit Hayden Hindman, who was just behind the defenders in the front right of the endzone for the touchdown and with Uckert’s point after, the Wildcats led by two scores 27-13.
Central Clarion scored on a seventy-seven yard pass from Ferguson to Smail, with Smail taking the ball in the middle of the field, at the Chucks’ forty and then outrunning everybody for the score. Uckert was good on the extra-point and the Wildcats’ lead was 34-13.
Quinn scored the Wildcats’ last touchdown as he intercepted a Punxsutawney pass over the middle, at the Central twenty-two, cut it outside and then followed some great blocking down the right side for a seventy-eight yard score with 4:02 on the clock. Uckert was successful again, to set the final.
Central Clarion head coach Dave Eggleton said, “I am very happy with how our guys responded to a physical game. Punxsy controlled the line of scrimmage in the first half, but we can out in the second half and started playing better up front.
“Offensively, Jase did a great job distributing the football. Our receivers ran crisp routes and made plays of the the catch. The Offensive line gave us great time again tonight.
“Dawson and Brady had big games for the second week in a row. We truly feel that all of our skill guys have the ability to go out and have a big game any given week.”
The Wildcats will host Bradford, at Clarion-Limestone on Friday (September 22nd).
