Wildcats Down Falcon-Knights To Go 3-0 In D9 Football League Action

The Central Clarion Wildcats defeated the homestanding Union/A-C Valley Falcon-Knights 72-0, in a District Nine Football League crossover contest on Friday (September 8th).

The Wildcats led 14-0 after one quarter, 49-0 at the half and 56-0 after three.

Central scored first, with quarterback Jase Ferguson throwing a twenty-five yard touchdown pass to Kohen Kemmer, at 4:54 of the first quarter. Thomas Uckert was successful on the PAT (his first on an 8-for-8 night) and the Wildcats led 7-0. Later in the first, Ferguson threw to Mason Burford for a thirty-six yard touchdown, and with the point after Central Clarion led 14-0, headed to the second quarter.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats score five touchdowns, with Uckert successful after each.

Brady Quinn had an eleven yard run to paydirt at 6:28. At 6:14 Hayden Hindman grabbed a Union/A-CV fumble and ran nineteen yards for a touchdown. With 3:53 left in the half, Ferguson hit Dawson Smail for a fifty-two yard score.

Quinn had a twenty-two yard interception return for a touchdown at 2:59 and then took a ten yard pass from Ferguson for a score.

The third saw one Wildcats’ touchdown, on a fourteen yard pass from Ferguson to Smail.

Central scored two touchdowns in the final stanza. Trevon Hooks ran the ball in from eleven yards out, with Alex Love running for the two-point conversion. The last touchdown was on a forty-three yard run by Ethan Rex. Brady McKinley finished things off carrying the ball for two.

Key offensive stats for the Wildcats: Ferguson completed 10-of-13 for 220 yards and five touchdowns. Smail had 4 receptions for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quinn caught 2 passes for 39 yards and a score, and also had 1 carry for 11 yards and a score. Burford had 3 catches for 51 yards and touchdown. Noah Harrison had 54 yards rushing on 4 carries. Uckert was 8-for-8 in points after touchdown.

Central Clarion had 424 total yards: 236 passing and 188 rushing.

Wildcats Coach Dave Eggleton said, “I was really pleased with how our defense stepped up tonight. I thought we really (moved) forward to the ball well. Jase continued making big plays in the passing game. The line gave him a lot of time tonight and he extended plays with his scrambling ability. I thought we took another step this week in becoming a better team.”

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Punxsutawney on Friday (September 15th).
