Former Clarion Area Bobcat volleyball standout Erica Selfridge, a member of the Slippery Rock University Rockets, was named to the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Western Division’s Second Team, as the All-Conference Teams were announced on Thursday, November 16th.
Erica played her last year of high school volleyball for the Bobcats after playing for the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats, from Bainbridge, New York, where her mother Tami was the head coach.
This is the second straight year Erica, a 5′-6″ junior Outside Hitter, has been selected on the Second Team.
SRU’s press release had this to say about Erica:
Thursday’s announcement marks the second consecutive All-PSAC West accolade for The Rock’s top outside hitter. In doing so, Selfridge becomes the first SRU athlete to earn all-conference honors in back-to-back years since libero Courtney Oberlander in 2016 and 2017.
In addition to starting all 29 matches this season, Selfridge played in all 103 sets for The Rock as part of a career-year. Selfridge recorded 313 kills, averaging 3.04 kills per set on a .192 attack percentage to go along with 30 aces. Defensively, she made 395 digs – 3.83 per set – and came away with 14 blocks.
Selfridge closed the season as Slippery Rock’s leader in kills while ranking second in both total digs and aces. She also became the first SRU athlete in six seasons to tally at least 300 kills.
Over the 29 matches in 2023, Selfridge produced 15 double-digit kills showings including 14 double-double outings.
Selfridge will enter her senior season in 2024 already ranked 14th in Slippery Rock history for kills in a career.
Erica’s older sister, Abigail, a “5-7” redshirt senior Setter/Defensive Specialist from PennWest Clarion, also made the West Second Team.
Abigail played her entire high school career for the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats, under her mother’s watchful eye. (Once the Selfridge’s moved to the area, it was always great seeing the way Tami and Ritch and Abigail came out to cheer Erica and the Clarion Area Bobcats on. I sat with them many times; great folks to be around.)
The Golden Eagles press release had this to say about Abigail:
Selfridge earned Second Team All-PSAC West honors after once again being rock steady on the back line for the Golden Eagles, ranking 11th in the PSAC with an average of 3.94 digs per set. The senior has been steadily climbing the Clarion record books, and enters this weekend with a total of 1,725 career digs, good enough for sixth on the program’s all-time list.
Selfridge has also been a handful at the service line, ranking first on the team and seventh in the PSAC with an average of 0.47 aces per set. Her total of 49 aces this season ranks fourth in the conference, and her career total of 168 aces entering this weekend ranks seventh in program history.
Two other Golden Eagles were named to this year’s West Squad.
Cassidy Snyder, a junior 6′-0″ Outside Hitter from Conneaut Area, earned her third First Team selection and garnered the Athlete of the Year award. London Fuller, a redshirt senior 5″-10″ Setter, from from Baltimore Polytechnic also earned her third First Team selection.
Congratulations to Erica, Abigail, Cassidy and London, and all the 2023 PSAC Women’s Volleyball All-Conference selectees!!!!
