With History Making Performance, St. Francis University’s Korrin Burns Earns Her Second Northeast Conference Volleyball Player Of The Week For 2023 Season; Red Flash Clinch NEC Tournament Berth

Former Clarion Area standout Korrin Burns, a 5′-11″ Outside Hitter for the NCAA Division I St. Francis University Red Flash, was named the Northeast Conference (NEC)/Molten Player of the Week for last week (Tuesday, November 7th – Monday, November 12th). Korrin also won the first Player of the Week award, for season opening awards in August.

Korrin set a St. Francis record in the effort, registering 34 kills in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-20) win against the homestanding Farleigh Dickinson Knights (Hackensack, New Jersey), on Friday.

Korrin is tied for third in Division I for kills in a four-set match and also set the record for the NEC for this season. She carries a .547 hitting percentage.

Korrin followed that performance on Saturday with 18 kills and 18 digs, in the visiting Red Flash’s 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 15-25, 25-22) over the Long Island University Sharks. She currently leads the NEC in kills per set with 3.63 and is tied for first in points per set with 4.00, and earned her sixth Prime Performer nod.

Red Flash teammate Aubrey Deptula, a 6”-1″ Middle Hitter, also earned NEC honors, earning Defensive Player of the Week

Aubrey led St. Francis in blocks, with one solo and four assisted against FDU and two assisted blocks against LIU. She registered nine kills combined for the two matches. This is Aubrey’s third Defensive Player of the Year and fourth Prime Performer recognition so far this season.

Saint Francis clinched a berth in the NEC Championship Tournament, hosted by Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, where they will again face FDU, this time in the semifinal match, this Friday (November 17th) at 2:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the Championship match on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., against winner of the other semifinal match between Sacred Heart and LIU, which will be played on Friday at 7:00 p.m.)
