Basketball Roundup: Bobcat Boys And Girls Action So Far This Week

Both the Clarion Area boys and girls basketball teams were in action this week. The Bobcat boys downed visiting Union 51-42 on Tuesday (December 12th). The Clarion Area girls have had two contests, downing homestanding Union/A-C Valley 57-19 at Rimersburg, on Monday (December 11th) and dropping a close 42-39 decision to Moniteau, at West Sunbury, on Wednesday (December13th). These were all Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) matchups.

Boys Basketball

Clarion 51 – Union 42

The Bobcats led 15-12 after one period, 32-23 at halftime and 38-36 after three quarters. A 13-6 Clarion edge in the fourth set the final.

Devon Lauer led the Bobcats with thirteen points, including a three-pointer. Gabe Simko also scored in double-figures with ten. Tanner Miller followed with 7 points (1 trey), while Owen Krieble and Dawson Smail each scored six points. Two of Krieble’s buckets were from long range.

Kameron Merrill contributed four points, while Mason Burford sunk a three. Bryce Brinkley and Derek Smail each sunk a free throw.

Trey Fleming led the Golden Knights with 10 points, including a three, while Dawson Camper followed with seven points.

The Bobcats are scheduled to host DuBois Central Catholic on Monday (December 18th).

Girls Basketball

Varsity: Clarion 51 – Union/A-C Valley 19

The Bobcats led 18-7 after one period, 29-11 at the half and 41-15 after the third period. A 16-4 edge in the fourth, set the final.

Sophie Babington led Clarion with 24 points, including four three-pointers, with Taylor Alston following with fourteen points. Alivia Diehl had six points.

Lacey Lauer, Marley Kline and Natalie Durish scored five points apiece, with Lauer sinking a trey.

Kya Wetzel led the Falcon-Knights with 8 points, while Brianna Schmidt scored six points.

Junior Varsity: Clarion 22 – Union/A-C Valley 6

The Bobcats led 7-3 after one, 9-3 at the half and 18-6 after three quarters.

Lacey Lauer was Clarion’s top scorer, with ten points. Olivia Boddorf followed with 6 points, while LilliShirey recorded 4 points and Abby Felmlee had two points.

Rashiotori and Fair each had three points for Union/A-C Valley.

Varsity: Moniteau 42 – Clarion 39

Moniteau led 9-8 after one, and 24-17 at the half. A 10-7 Bobcat edge in the third had Moniteau up by just four points 31-27 heading to the last frame, where a 12-11 Clarion advantage set the final.

Clarion’s Taylor Alston had a game-high twenty-one points, with one shot from long range. Sophie Babington followed with 8 points, followed by Marley Kline with six.

Gia Babington and Natalie Durish had two points each.

Catherine Kelly led Moniteau with 20 points, including a trey, and Kendall Sankey with fifteen points.

Junior Varsity: Moniteau 36 – Clarion 10

Moniteau scored 21 first half points. They led 27-6 after three, with the Bobcats hanging tough in the third, by scoring 5 points to the Warriors six. A 9-5 Moniteau advantage in the fourth set the final.

Lacey Lauer led Clarion with six points. Lilli Shirey and Kelsey Best scored two points apiece.

Emily Martz led the Warriors with 12 points, followed by Taylor Grace and Sydney Bayless with eight each.

The Junior Varsity also had a home win on Thursday, December 7th, against the North Clarion Wolves.

Junior Varsity: Clarion 13 – North Clarion 6

The Wolves led 5-2 after one, but the Bobcats scored 9 unanswered points in the second to lead 11-5 at halftime. A 2-1 Bobcat edge in the third set the final.

Lacey Lauer scored all of Clarion’s thirteen points.

Abby Hastings led North Clarion with 3 points, while Christina Hicks scored 2 points and Sydney Baumcratz one point.

The Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Punxsutawney on Monday (December 18th)
