Five Wildcats Named To 2023 PFN Coaches-Select Class 2A All-State Football Team

Pennsylvania Football News (PFN) announced their 2023 PFN Coaches-Select Class 2A All-State Football Team on Thursday, January 4th and a number of Central Clarion Wildcats were selected.

Named from the District Nine Football League Region 1 and District 9 Class 2A champions were: Jimmy Kerr, Jase Ferguson, Thomas Uckert, Mason Burford and Brady Quinn.

Jimmy, Jase and Thomas were named to the First Team, while Mason and Brady were Second Team selections.

Jimmy was named at Offensive Tackle, Jase was selected as Offensive Athlete and Thomas was named as a kicker.

Mason got a nod at Corner Back and Brady was chosen as a Defensive Athlete.

Central Clarion Head Coach Davey Eggleton had some fine words about his players who were selected.

I am excited to see these young men earn these well deserved honors. 

Jimmy was dominant all season and is without a doubt one of the very best lineman in the state.  He was a huge reason for the success we had on offense this year. 

Jase has earned many honors this year. He is one the very best football players in all of the state. His playmaking ability is among the best I have ever seen as a coach. 

Thomas was automatic this year. Having the luxury of knowing you are going to get the extra point is a huge advantage. He also was crucial in the field position game. He constantly pinned teams deep with big kicks and touchbacks. 

Mason really grew into a lockdown corner this season. His progression from week 1 to week 12 was amazing. He locked up against the best receivers in the state and really shut them down. 

Brady was truly the heart of our team. His play far exceeded any expectations one would have based on his size. He has a nose for the football and played with a great amount of physicality. 

Brookville’s Jack Pete was named to the Second Team as a Kick Returner/Punt Returner.

PFN also named their 2023 PFN Coaches-Select Class 1A and 3A All-State Football Teams on Thursday (January 4th). A number of athletes from the District Nine Football League were named to the 1A Team.

Redbank Valley had four players selected to the First Team: Ashton Kahle – Slot Back/Half Back, Mason Clouse – Wide Receiver, Hayden Rearick – Long Snapper and Brandon Ross – Defensive Tackle. Owen Clouse – Outside Linebacker made the Second Team.

Port Allegany had two players selected to the First Team : Carson Neely – Offensive Guard and Miska Young – Defensive End.

Brockway’s Reese Yahner – Offensive Guard, was named to the Second Team.

Several area players were named to the 3A First Team: Oil City’s Ethan Knox – Running Back, Punxsutawney’s Beau Thomas – Slot Back/Half Back (Punxsutawney is in District Nine Football League Region 1), Clearfield’s Carter Freeland – Defensive Athlete (Clearfield is located in District Nine, but competes in the Laurel Highlands Conference) and Grove City’s Nathan Greer – Kick Returner/Punt Returner.

Named to the 3A Second Team were Grove City’s Hunter Homan – Outside Linebacker and Gavin Lutz – Cornerback.

Congratulations to Jimmy, Jase, Thomas, Mason and Brady and all of the 2023 PFN Coaches-Select Class 2A, 1A and 3A All-State Football Team selectees!!!!

Coach of the Year: Jim Roth, Southern Columbia
