Boys’ Basketball: Devon Lauer Scores 1,000th Point In Bobcats Victory Over Vikings

Devon Lauer became the 11th player in Clarion Area Boys’ Basketball history to score 1,000 points, on Monday, February 5th, before the home crowd, in the Bobcats 76-31 win over the Venango Catholic Vikings.

Devon’s career total stood at 992, needing just eight more points, coming in. He scored his eighth point in the second quarter, and standing at 1,000 points exactly, he rested the remainder of the contest, along with several others.

But not before his teammates had a celebration with him, with several hoisting him on their shoulders, and being presented with the commemorative ball and banner recognizing Devon’s major achievement

After the celebration, the game continued, with a number of players getting an opportunity for playing time.

Three freshmen, Dylan Smail, Trey Hooks and Parker Miller reached double-figures. Dylan was the Bobcats’ high scorer, with fifteen points, including a trey. Trey followed with 13 points, with one bucket from long range, and Parker scoring ten points.

Gabe Simko and Nathan Frederick each posted six points. Kam Merrell and Mason Burford each had three points as both knocked down a three-pointer.

Six Bobcats, Tanner Miller, Bryce Brinkley, Dawson Smail, Derek Smail, Dauntae Girvan and Owen Kriebel finished with two points apiece.

Konnor Beichner led the Vikings with a game-high nineteen points, with one bucket from beyond the arc. Kyle Beichner followed with ten points, including two treys.

The Bobcats led after each period, 23-7 after one, 35-17 at the half and 58-24 after three.

The Bobcats are set to host Cranberry on Wednesday, February 7th.
