Clarion Falls To Eagles In Nine Innings In Bobcats’ Season Opener

The Clarion Area Baseball Team traveled to Grove City, on Friday, March 29th, falling to the Eagles 9-8 in nine innings. This was the season opener for the Bobcats. Grove City played their first game on Thursday (March, 28th), falling to Wilmington, 10-5.

Grove City scored a run in the bottom of the first. Clarion tied the score with a run in the top of the second, but the Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 4-1 lead.

Neither team scored in the third. The Cats had a pair of unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings, to take a 5-4 lead. Grove City tied it at 5-all with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

With neither team scoring in the seventh, the game headed to extra innings.

The eighth produced no runs. But the Bobcats scored three in the top of the ninth, to take an 8-5 lead. Four runs by Grove City in the bottom of the inning set the 9-8 final, in favor of the Eagles.

Devon Lauer had 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and two runs scored for the Bobcats. Derek Smail had a pair of doubles, an RBI and scored a run. Matt Alston singled, doubled and drove in a run.

Dawson Smail and Tanner Miller each doubled, scored a run and had an RBI.

Noah Harrison and Hayden Weber had each drove in 1 run, while Bryce Brinkley, Wyatt Watterson and Dylan Smail each scored a run.

For Grove City: Nolan Renick had a homer, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Ethan Adams doubled, homered, had two RBIs and scored twice. Max Knouse had 3 hits and two RBIs. Knouse was the winning pitcher.

The Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Cranberry on Tuesday (April 2nd).
