Bobcats Baseball Team 3-0 So Far This Week
The Clarion Area Bobcats have had three games so far this week, winning all three. The Cats downed the visiting Elk County Catholic Crusaders 14-6, at Clarion County Park on Monday (April 22nd). They then downed the homestanding DuBois Beavers, 10-8 at Showers Field, on Tuesday (April 23rd). The Bobcats traveled to North Clarion on Wednesday (April 24th), downing the Wolves 13-1 in five innings.
Clarion 14 – Elk County Catholic 6
The Bobcats broke out to an 8-0 lead after three, posting five runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second an two more in the third, while holding the Crusaders off the scoreboard. ECC pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth, cutting Clarion’s lead to 7-6. The Cats scored two in their half of the fifth. Both teams scored a run in the sixth and neither scored in the seventh setting the 14-6 final.
The Bobcats had fourteen hits in the contest.
Wyatt Watterson had two hits including a home run, scored twice and drove in a pair for the Bobcats. Dawson Smail singled and homered, had an RBI and scored twice. Devon Lauer had 2 hits, scored 3 runs and drove in a run.
Bryce Brinkley had a pair of hits, scored a run and drove in two. Tanner Miller doubled and drove in a run. Derek Smail had a pair of singles, scored once and drove in a run. Dylan Smail had a pair of singles, scored a run and had an RBI.
Dauntae Girvan had 1 hit, scored once and drove a runner home. Noah Harrison singled and had an RBI.
Miller had 7 strikeouts in three innings on the mound.
Clarion 10 – DuBois 8
DuBois built a 6-0 lead through two innings. Neither team scored in the next two frames. The Cats put up three unanswered runs in the fifth, cutting the Beavers’ lead in half, 6-3.
Both teams scored one run apiece in the sixth. And down 7-4, in the seventh, the Bobcats turned up the offense with six runs crossing the plate. DuBois had one run, at the bottom of the inning, setting the 10-8 final.
Harrison had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, scored a run and drove in three for the Bobcats. Dawson Smail singled and doubled, scored once and had three RBIs. Devon Lauer had 1 hit, 1 RBI and a run scored. Matt Alston doubled, drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Girvan, Miller and Derek Smail each singled and scored a run. Brinkley singled, while Dylan Smail and Hayden Weber each scored a run.
Derek Smail picked up the win in relief, striking out five, walking two and allowing two earned runs.
Clarion 13 – North Clarion 1
The Cats scored a run in the top of the first, another in the second, four in the third and seven in the third, while the Wolves’ run came in the third.
Harrison had a home run and a single, drove in four runs and scored twice for Clarion. Brinkley singled, doubled, drove in 2 runs and a scored twice. Lauer had a pair of hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Dawson Smail had 2 singles, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Girvan singled twice and drove in a run. Derek Smail doubled and scored twice. Miller and Alston each singled and drove in a run. Weber, Rex and Dylan Smail each scored a run.
Miller picked up the win, giving up no runs and no hits, with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks, in two innings of work. Rex and Girvan also saw work on the mound, with Rex recording 5 strikeouts and Girvan two.
The Bobcats are scheduled to take on the Dubois Central Catholic Cardinals at PNC Park on Saturday (April 27th), with the festivities set to begin at 6:00PM.
