Baseball: Bobcats Season Ends With State Playoff Loss To Huskies

The Clarion Area Bobcats 2024 season came to an end with a PIAA State Playoff opening round 9-3 loss to the Bishop Carroll Huskies at Showers Field in DuBois, on Monday (June 3rd).

The Huskies held a 5-0 lead, with three unanswered runs in the top of the first and a pair in the fourth. The Bobcats made it 5-1 with a solo homerun in the by Derek Smail in the bottom of the sixth. But Bishop Carroll plated four more runs in the top of the seventh, with Clarion scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to set the final.

Dawson Smail had a pair of hits and scored a run for the Bobcats. Noah Harrison doubled and drove in two runs. Wyatt Watterson singled and scored a run.

Nate Frederick singled, had an RBI and a run scored. Bryce Brinkley, Tanner Miller and Matt Alston each collected a hit.

The Bobcats still had a successful season, going 18-3-1, while winning both the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) championship and the District Nine – Class 1A championship.

The game marked the end of the seniors high school careers.

Congratulations to Dawson Smail Dauntae Girvan, Bryce Brinkley, Tanner Miller, Devon Lauer and Eli Rudesyle on a great run, that included the 2023 State Championship!!!!
