The Central Clarion Wildcats Boys Soccer team hosted the Punxsutawney Chucks Saturday morning, September 14th at Clarion-Limestone’s field, winning 9-0.
The Wildcats currently have a record of 6-2 with all six wins recorded as shutouts. The two losses occurred at home, last week against AAA DuBois Area High School Beavers by a score of 3-2, Wednesday, (September 11th) and a day later against the Brockway Rovers in a District 9 showdown by a score of 2-1.
The incredible feat of 49 goals scored by the Central Clarion offense contrasted by the 5 goals against the Central Clarion defense this season was overshadowed last week by the loss to perennial nemesis Brockway, an important reminder that the Wildcats aren’t invincible.
The shocking shutout that occurred on Saturday proved that the offense was as potent as ever, with the first two goals scored within the first two minutes of play. As the Wildcats’ coach Don Montgomery realized after several more minutes of play and scoring, replacements were quickly inserted in for the starting lineup.
Wildcats’ striker Martin Ormeno scored four goals during the game. Both midfielders Thomas Uckert and Dany Schweitzer scored a pair of goals each and midfielder Brenden Bettwy scored a goal as well.
Goalie Isaac Lerch made 3 saves in the first half, one of which was a strong strike by the Chucks’ attacker with less than a minute left in the first half, the ball hitting Lerch’s hands up high and landing on top of the goal. The second half saw one save by the Wildcats’ goalie.
The Wildcats resume action Wednesday (September 18th) at Brockway’s artificial turfed Varischetti Field for a shot at redemption. Again, similar to last week, the Wildcats play back to back games, as they go against KSAC and District 9 rival North Clarion Wolves at home on Thursday (September 19th). The Wolves will be seeking comparable redemption against the Wildcats due to their 6-0 loss against the Wildcats earlier in the season.
(Good Work, Wildcats!!!! Thanks to Matt Lerch for this article and photos!!)
