Boys Basketball: Bobcats Compete In Keystone Tip-off Tournament

The Clarion Area Bobcats competed in the Keystone Tip-off Tournament on Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th.

The Bobcats fell 51-43 in their Friday opener with DuBois and dropped their consolation game with Keystone 60-50 on Saturday.

DuBois led 12-11 after one period Friday. A 15-11 Bobcat edge in the second, had Clarion up 26-23 at the half. With a 12-9 Beavers’ advantage in the third, the score was knotted 35-all heading to the final stanza, where a 16-8 Dubois edge set the final.

Dylan Smail led the Bobcats with ten points. Nathan Frederick and Treyvan Hooks followed with 9 points each, with each canning three treys. Derek Smail had 8 points, while going 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Hayden Weber scored four points. Wyatt Watterson scored 2 points and Quinn O’Neill scored one.

Saturday’s game with Keystone saw the Panthers jump out to a 15-6 lead after one and an 11-point halftime lead of 33-22 after posting an 18-13 advantage in the third. The Bobcats held 15-13 edge in the third, but a 14-13 Keystone fourth quarter edge set the 60-50 final.

Nathan Frederick went 4-4 from the charity stripe and was good on two 3-pointers, in leading the Bobcats with 20 points. Derek Smail followed with 10 points, and hauled in eighteen rebounds.

Wyatt Watterson scored nine points. Dylan Smail followed with eight and Treyvan Hooks canned a trey for three points.

DuBois downed Oil City 56-52, in Saturday’s Championship game.
