Boys Basketball Roundup: Bobcats Down Lakeview And Clarion-Limestone

The Clarion Area Bobcats boys basketball team won two recent road games. They traveled to Stoneboro on Friday, December 13th, downing homestanding Lakeview Sailors, 58-52 in a non-conference matchup. The Cats followed that win, with a 61-47 triumph at Clarion-Limestone in a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference tilt, on Monday, December 16th.

The Bobcats held a 15-12 edge after one period. The Sailors outscored the Cats 17-14 in the second and the score was knotted at 29 at the half. Lakeview had a 15-12 third quarter edge and took a 47-44 lead into the final stanza, where a 17-8 Bobcats’ edge set the final.

Derek Smail had a double-double against the Sailors, with 20 points and eleven rebounds. Nathan Frederick and Wyatt Watterson also scored in double-figures for the Bobcats. Frederick scored 16 points, with three buckets coming from beyond the arc and Watterson had twelve points, including two treys.

Dylan Smail canned 2 treys as a part of an eight point night. Mason Burford rounded out the Clarion scoring with two points. Dylan Smail, Frederick, and Burford had five rebounds each.

The Bobcats held a 14-7 lead after one period, at Clarion-Limestone on Monday, and a 34-25 advantage at the half, after a two-point, 20-18 edge in the second. A one point, 14-13 Bobcats edge in the third, had Clarion up 48-38 and a 13-9 fourth quarter in favor of the Cats, set the 61-47 final.

Wyatt Watterson led the Bobcats with a game-high 19 points, which included three treys. Two other Bobcats scored in double-figures, Nathan Frederick with 12, including two baskets from downtown and Derek Smail with eleven points.

Mason Burford had 6 points, including a three-pointer. He also gathered down eight rebounds. Dylan Smail scored six points. Quinn O’Neill scored four points and Treyvan Hooks canned a trey for three points in the contest.

Paul Craig led the Lions with thirteen points. Reese Runyan followed with 9 points and Kohen Kemmer had eight. They each had a trey.

The Bobcats are scheduled to visit Union on Wednesday (December 18th).
