Bobcat Boys Place Third In Truance Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament; Nathan Frederick Named To Tourney All-Star Team

The Clarion Area Bobcat Boys placed third in the 2024 Carl Truance Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament, held Friday, December 27th and Saturday, December 28th at Punxsutawney High School.
The Cats fell to eventual champion, Punxsutawney, 47-35 on Friday.
The Chucks led 14-4 after one period, but the Bobcats held a 10-9 edge in the second, giving Punxy a 23-14 lead at the half. A 9-4 Bobcat advantage had the Chucks up by just four, 27-23 headed to the last stanza, where a 20-12 Punxutawney edge, set the final.
Nathan Frederick and Wyatt Watterson led the Bobcats with 10 points apiece. Waterson had 2 treys and Frederick had one.
Dylan Smail and Mason Burford each scored 7 points, while Derek Smail contributed four.
Punxy was led by Noah Kengerski with twenty-one points. Evan Presloid and Brody Stouffer followed with 11 and ten points respectively.
The Bobcats bounced back in Saturday’s consolation game, with a 63-53 win over the Marion Center Stingers.
The Cats led 30-25 at the half and with a 23-16 edge in the third, they held a 53-41 edge heading to the final stanza, where a 12-10 Marion Center edge set the final.
Clarion had four players score in double-figures, Fredrick with 18 points, Derek Smail with 13 and Mason Burford and Treyvon Hooks with ten apiece.
Cameron Pack led the Stingers with fifteen points.
Punxutawney downed Redbank Valley with a 46-40 in the Championship contest.
For his fine play, Frederick was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Kengersky was selected Tournament MVP, while Stouffer received the Don Bishop Extra Effort Award.
Others named to the All-Tournament Team included Presloid, Pack, and Redbank Valley’s Braylon Wagner and Breckin Minich.
