Bobcats Down Panthers In D9 Boys Class-AA Basketball Semifinal; Will Face Redbank Valley In Championship On Saturday (March 1st)

The Clarion Area Bobcats won their District Nine Class-AA semifinal matchup with the Keystone Panthers, 53-48, at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium on Wednesday (February 26th).

With the win, the Bobcats advance to the championship game, where they will face the Redbank Valley Bulldogs, at Tippin on Saturday (March 1st). Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 P.M. The contest is part of the big Super Saturday event, featuring six different championship games.

Redbank advance by winning their semifinal contest with Clarion-Limestone.

Clarion held an 11-10 lead after the first period. The Bobcats followed that up by outscoring the Panthers 15-11 in the second, to carry a 26-21 edge into halftime.

The third quarter saw the Bobcats with an 11-7 advantage and a 37-28 lead heading to the fourth. The Panthers had a 20-16 edge there to set the final.

Derek Smail led the Bobcats with eighteen points. He scored 12 in the first half, where he was 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.

Dylan Smail finished with 14 points, which included 10 of 16 from the line and scoring on seven free-throws in the fourth.

Nate Frederick also finished in double figures, with 10 points, including a trey.

Mason Burford scored 6 points and Wyatt Watterson recorded five points, including a three-point bucket.

Dom Corcetti led the Panthers with 20 points. Eli Nellis had fourteen.
