The Clarion Comets Indoor Track and Field team concluded its indoor season at Youngstown State University High School Meet #4 at YSU’s WATTS Center on Saturday, February 15th. Twelve of the Clarion Comets braved treacherous travel conditions again for the all day event.
Coach Tammy Lerch was pleased with the team’s performance against some of the best athletes in the nation. One of the fastest races saw Carter Smith of Mifflin County running the 800m with a time of 1:50.31, a second best time in the nation this year.
The Comets were represented in sprints, hurdles, mid-distance, distance, long jump, triple jump and pole vault during this competition.

Eliza Datko started with the 1600m, finishing in 25th place with a new personal record. She also ran the 800m and placed 6th in the 3200m. Vera Heferle ran in the 60m and 200m setting new PR’s in both events, and she placed 14th in the long jump.
Megan Powell ran the 60m and placed 24th in the long jump and 25th in the triple jump. Bryn Anderson competed in both the 1600m and the 800m.

Isaac Lerch ran the 60m and 200m and placed 13th in the long jump with a season’s best jump. Aiden Fox competed in the triple jump and came in 17th place in the long jump.
Chris Kim doubled in the 800m and 1600m shattering his own personal records. Josh Turner ran the 800m and set a new PR in the 1600m.

Blace Easlon competed in both the 800m and 1600m. Garret Dick was the only hurdler for the Comets running the 60m hurdles and setting a new PR in the 200m.

Hudson Bliss placed 15th in the pole vault and brother Harrison Bliss set a new PR and placed 20th in the pole vault.
The season has concluded for the Clarion Comets and the athletes have their eyes set on the outdoor season with practices beginning in 2 weeks. Eight different school districts from Clarion, Venango and Forest Counties were represented by this dedicated collection of athletes who trained through the winter without an indoor facility to practice.
Their collective performances against some of the best athletes in the area and nation are a true testimony of the Comet athletes’ dedication and talent.
(Nice indoor season, Comets!!!! Thanks to Matt Lerch for this article and photos!!)
