Derek Smail And Parents Honored On Bobcat Boys Basketball Senior Night

The Bobcat Boys basketball team honored Derek, their lone senior and his parents Dave and Jami Smail in the Senior Night Festivities, prior to their game with Redbank Valley, at Clarion Area Gymnasium on Friday, February 7th.

The Bobcats won the contest 60-57.

Bobcat head coach Sam Heeter said, “It was fantastic to win that game on our Senior Night so that we were able to celebrate Derek in good spirits. Redbank is a well coached team, and they have a lot of talent so I was looking forward to the highly anticipated game.”

And the Smail brothers were important parts of the Bobcats Senior Night success.

Derek scored 10 points, gathered in 6 rebounds and had an assist, while Dylan scored 12 points and handed out four assists.

Derek Shared about his future plans:

“This fall, I’ll be attending PennWest Clarion to major in Business, and I couldn’t be more excited about this next chapter of my life.

“While I’ll be focusing on my studies, I’m also looking forward to continuing my passion for baseball. At CUP, I will be playing for Coach Poss on the baseball team, which is an opportunity I’ve been working towards for a long time.

“As a two-way player, my goal is to contribute both as a first baseman and a pitcher. These are positions I’ve played for as long as I can remember, and I’m committed to giving my all in both roles.

“Baseball has been a huge part of my life, and it’s a thrill to continue competing at the collegiate level.

“While I haven’t thought much about what I’ll do after college I have a few ideas.”
