Logan Powell And Mason Gourley Head To States After Second Place Finishes At Regionals
Central Clarion’s Logan Powell and Mason Gourley each came away with second place finishes in the Northwest Regional Wrestling Tournament, held at Sharon High School last Friday and Saturday (February 28th and March 1st).
With their finishes, Logan and Mason now advance to the PIAA Class-AA Championships which will be held at the Giant Center in Hershey this Thursday (March 6th) through Saturday (March 8th).

Logan, wrestling in the 139 pound division, started in the quarterfinals, with a 4-0 decision over Corry’s William Allen. He followed that with a 6-2 semifinal win over Kaysom Materia from Greenville.
Logan lost by fall to Kaysom Materia from Greenville in the championship match.

Mason competing at 160, opened with a 10-3 quarterfinal decision over Slippery Rock’s Zac Turberville. The semifinals saw Mason downing Ty Aveni from Clearfield, 6-0.
Mason fell to Cathedral Prep’s Brandon Byrd, 8-2 in their finals matchup.
Jake Henry had two wins at 172 and Hayden Hindman had a win at 285 for the Wildcats. Also competing were Wyatt Aaron at 127 and Grayson Aaron at 133.
The Wildcats finished thirteenth in a field of thirty-nine teams.

Coach Braun Gourley had this to say, “Had a great showing for our program. Our two seniors will be advancing to states, both with 2nd place finishes. Our underclassmen gained valuable experience at the tournament and they understand what it takes to win at this level.
“We have a short week of practice before heading to Hershey on Wednesday afternoon.”
