Bobcats and Wildcats Both Successful On Diamond

The Central Clarion Wildcats softball and Clarion Area Bobcats baseball teams both won their games on Tuesday (April 1st), with Wildcats defeating the visiting Forest Area Fires 15-4, in four innings and the Bobcats downing the Elk Catholic Crusaders 11-1 at Berwind Park in St. Marys. 

Wildcats vs Forest Area

The Fires scored two runs in the top of the first, with the Wildcats scoring two in the bottom of the inning. Forest Area scored two runs in each of the next two innings, with the Wildcats answering with five in both frames. Central Clarion tacked on two more in the fourth. The Fires were unable to answer in the top of the fifth, ending the contest.

Emileigh Mahle had 2 hits for the Wildcats, including a triple. She also scored four runs. JJ Wilson had a triple, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Ashlyn Clark hit 2 doubles, and had two runs batted in.

Ali Burford doubled and scored a pair of runs. Sami Simpson singled and scored a run. Megan Powell scored twice. Karlee Mahle also scored a run.

Jenna Dunn was the winning pitcher. She struck out 9, while walking 3 and allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs.

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to St. Marys tomorrow (Thursday, April 3rd) with a  4:30 p.m. start.

Bobcats vs Elk County Catholic

Clarion scored one in run in the first, another in the third, six in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Crusaders’ run came in the fifth.

Dylan Smail homered and singled and also scored another run. Derek Smail had 3 hits, including a double and drove in three runs. Billy Kahle connected on 3 hits, drove in 3 and scored three runs. Gabe Anderson doubled and singled, had an RBI and scored twice.

Hayden Weber had two hits, scored a run and drove in two. Wyatt Watterson scored once and drove in a run. Ethan Rex and Noah Harrison each scored a run.

Rex was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings. He threw 4 strikeouts allowing just 1 run and 4 hits. Dylan Smail threw 2 innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out 1 and walked one.

The Bobcats are scheduled to play Redbank Valley at 7:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, April 2nd).
