Wildcats’ Jimmy Kerr, Braylon Beckwith And Matt Alston Selected To The West Squad For The 40th Annual CPFCA Lezzer Lumber All-Star Football Game

The Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association has announced the rosters for their 40th Annual Lezzer Lumber All-Star Football Game, to be held on Friday, June 20th at Bellefonte’s Rogers Stadium, with three Central Clarion Wildcats selected to play for the North Squad, Offensive Lineman/Defensive Lineman Jimmy Kerr, Tight End/Linebacker Braylon Beckwith and Matt Alston.

The Lezzer Lumber Classic is one of the longest running and highly esteemed regional football all-star games in the state. It began as the Mid-State Classic in 1986. Lezzer Lumber has had the sponsorship since 1997. The CPFCA selects players from member schools and programs in all classifications, 1A to 6A.

The Game Directors are Larry Wiser, for the North and Tom Shearer, for the South. Both held those positions for several years. Coach Wiser who coached the Clarion Bobcats for decades and the Central Clarion Wildcats in their first season is a member of the CPFCA and Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) Halls of Fame.

On the sidelines, the Game Director duties include making sure the coaches get every player ample time on the field. and making sure everybody follows the game rules (all-star rules vary from regular rules, and can be somewhat confusing). Background duties include, making sure all the paperwork is distributed to the nominees and returned in time, involvement in recruiting businesses and organizations to sponsor scholarships and game sponsors.

Though selected as a player, Matt is still recovering from off-season surgery. He will be assisting Coach Wiser in any and all ways he can, at practices throughout the week and on game day.

Wildcats’ Head Coach Davey Eggleton shared, “We’re all incredibly proud of Braylon Beckwith, Jimmy Kerr, and Matt Alston for being selected to play in the prestigious Lezzer Lumber All-Star Game.

“Each of these young men has earned this opportunity through hard work, leadership, and a relentless commitment to their team.

“Braylon’s versatility at tight end and linebacker, Jimmy’s toughness and consistency in the trenches, and Matt’s impact on both sides of the ball have made them standout players.

“A well-deserved honor and a great way to cap off their high school careers.”

Game Time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $5.00 in advance and $7.00 at the gate.
