A tight contest on Tuesday between the Karns City Gremlins and Central Clarion Wildcat boys’ soccer teams came down to a penalty kick with 3:34 left in overtime.
Scoring opened for Karns City when senior Mason Bell received a perfect through ball to split the Wildcat defense and beat goalie Sampson Gao. Undaunted, the Wildcats tied the score on an unassisted Dani Schweitzer goal from twenty yards out. Colton Christie came back and gave the Gremlins the 2-1 lead going into halftime.

Central Clarion went on the offensive for much of the second half however scoring was limited to a bomb by senior Brendan Bettwy off of a Schweitzer pass. The remainder of regular time was evenly matched with both teams pressing but being unable to find the net.
Overtime began with a 2-2 tie and both teams making advances. Karns City was pressing the attack when they were awarded the PK on a kicking violation in the penalty box. Colton Christie buried his shot to get his second goal of the game and give the Gremlins the victory.
(The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to DuBois on Wednesday (September 10th) to face the Beavers.)
(Keep up the hard work Wildcats!!!! Thanks to Suzanne Fenski for her photos and thanks to Mark Bettwy for his fine summary of the Karns City match and his photo!!)
