West Shamokin traveled to the Clarion-Limestone Lion’s Den on Monday evening to face the Central Clarion Wildcat boys’ team.

Central Clarion controlled possession early but the game was evenly matched throughout.

The Wolves’ Coleman Stockdale opened the scoring part way into the first half with a twenty-five yard shot, the first of his three goals in the game.

Wildcat senior Nathan Frederick responded a short time later with a high lob for a perfect through ball over the retreating defense. A streaking Martin Ormeno tapped the ball over the arms of the charging Wolf goalie to even the score 1-1.

West Shamokin took the lead again but Dany Schweitzer capitalized on a pass from Brendan Bettwy to knot it up again with a minute to go before halftime.

Bettwy resumed the Wildcat scoring in the second half with a corner kick goal over the head of the jumping goalie.

The Wildcats maintained the 3-2 lead for the remainder of the game but West Shamokin scored on a breakaway to see regular time end with a 3-3.

Sophomore goalie Tyler Brown kept the Wildcats in the game with several athletic stops against various charging attackers and the first overtime period solved nothing. The see-saw battle continued but neither team could find the back of the net.

West Shamokin ended the heartbreaker with their final goal coming at the 8:20 mark.

Central Clarion will host Brockway at home on Wednesday (September 17th) at 7 PM.

(Keep up the hard work, Wildcats!!!! Thanks to Mark Bettwy for his fine article and photo!!)
