The Central Clarion Wildcats traveled to St. Marys on Friday (October 3rd) and came away with a 21-6 win, over the Flying Dutchmen, in a key District 9 Football League Division 1 contest.

Both teams entered the game with identical records, 2-4 overall and 0-2 within Division 1 and hoping to make a move toward the playoffs.

Their was no scoring in the first quarter.

Ethan Rex scored two touchdowns

Ethan Rex put the Wildcats on the scoreboard first, with a 24 yard run at 8:21 in the second quarter. Logan Bish was good on the point after and Central Clarion led 7-0. The score remained the same through the half.

Central Clarion quarterback, Carter Hindman hit Rex on a 12 yard touchdown pass with 8:28 on the third quarter clock. Bish was good on the PAT, upping the lead to 14-0.

Carter Hindman had a solid all-around game

Alex Love scored on a three yard run with 2:53 left in the quarter and with Bish’s successful kick the Wildcats now led 21-0.

Andrew Field ran for a touchdown for the Dutch in the fourth quarter, setting the final.

Central Clarion head coach Dave Eggleton was pleased with the Wildcats’ play. “Overall, I thought we played great defense tonight. Our guys did an excellent job of assignment football and really executed the game plan well. There were a few missed tackles I’d like to see cleaned up, but overall, I was very proud of our effort.

Offensively, we still need to do a better job of capitalizing on the opportunities we have, but I liked our balance tonight. Our quick passing game looked sharp, Ethan ran the ball hard, and our offensive line won the battle up front for the most part. It was a solid team win and a good step forward for us.”

SOME KEY WILDCAT OFFENSIVE STATS:

Rex – 22 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown, and 2 receptions for 25 yards and a score; Hindman – 20-for-28 passing for 137 yards, with a touchdown, 5 carries for 34 yards; Love – 5 carries 24 yards and a touchdown; Bish – 4 catches for 45 yards; Mason Burford 4 catches for 32 yards.

The Wildcats, 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Division 1 will host Bradford in a non-division game on Friday (October 10th), at Wiser Field. This will be the Wildcats’ Homecoming.
