Softball: Wildcats Split Games At C-L Sports Complex
The Central Clarion Wildcats played against two teams at the C-L Sports Complex on Monday (May 11th).
The first game was a 9-3 victory against the A-C Valley/Union Falcon-Knights. The second game was a conclusion of a suspended game with the Moniteau Warriors, with the Wildcats being the visitors against Moniteau. Moniteau won that one 15-1.
A-C VALLEY/UNION
A-C Valley/Union failed to score in the top of the first.
Karlee Mahle walked to open the Wildcats half of the inning and scored on a single by Jesalyn Girt giving Central Clarion a 1-0 lead after one.
Neither team scored in the second and the Wildcats held A-CV/U off the scoreboard in the top of the third.
Ashlyn Clark and Girt opened Central Clarion’s half of the inning with back-to-back walks. The next batter, Kaylee Smith tripled, driving both runners home. The next batter, Megan Powell sent Smith across the plate. Powell would later score and the Wildcats led 5-0.
The Falcon-Knights scored a run in the top of the fourth cutting their deficit to 5-1. The Wildcats scored one of their own in the bottom of the frame, when Mahle singled and was driven home by Brooke Meals – 6-1, Wildcats. Clark had a double in the inning.
No one scored in the fifth, but Lexie O’Brien had a single and two stolen bases for the Wildcats.
The Falcon-Knights scored two runs in the top of the sixth and Central Clarion’s lead was cut to 6-3.
The Wildcats scored the games final three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Meals walked and stole second. She was driven home on a single by Clark, who later scored on a single by Smith. Smith crossed the plate on a single by Powell.
Smith pitched a complete game to pick up the win, striking out nine batters.

Powell scored Central Clarion’s run in the second inning.
Mahle and Meals had Central Clarion’s two hits in this game.
