Eighteen Bobcats Named PFN Academic All-State (02/27/14)

Well so much for the “just a bunch of dumb jocks” theory. The District Nine Class-A Champion, Clarion Area Football Team had eighteen members named to the 2013 Pennsylvania Football News, Academic All-State Team. That is exactly one-half of the Bobcats’ roster.

Players are named in one of three categories according to GPA: Gold – 3.8 to 4.0, Silver – 3.4 to 3.79 and Bronze – 3.0 to 3.39.

Four Bobcats were named in the Gold category: seniors, Damien Cherico, Antonio Troese and Matt Verne; sophomore, Brendan Miller. Seven were named in the Silver category: seniors, Tanner Corbett, Nathan McNamara and Damien Slike; and sophomores, Leo Aiello, Caleb Bailey, Luke Nellis and Adrian Weber.

Rounding out the Bobcat contingent in the Bronze category were seven players: seniors, Ben Babbington, Stephen Hartley, Cody Hearst; juniors, Ian Corbett and Jacob Troutman; and sophomores, Michael Bartley and Will Staub.

Head Coach and Athletic Director, Larry Wiser said that (these players being named to the team) is “A tribute to the Clarion Area Community!”
