The Bobcat Junior High Basketball B-Team made it eight straight wins, with victories against Cranberry and Redbank Valley. Coach Jason Craig shares these recaps:

02/24/14 Clarion vs Cranberry

The last time the B-Team played Cranberry, it was a thriller. A last second basket by Archer Mills gave Clarion a two point win. We came in to the game anticipating another close game. However, the Bobcats came out shooting and the defense stepped it up as we jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the opening period.

However, Cranberry wouldn’t go away. They hit two big 3-pointers and won the quarter 9-6. Clarion held a 17-11 lead at the break. The third quarter was a draw with each team scoring 6 points. Once again, Mills hit a big shot to ice the game. This time, it was a clutch 3-pointer. Cranberry won the fourth quarter 5-4, but Clarion won the game 27-22.

The win extended the B-Team’s winning streak to 7 games and improved their record to 7-3. The scoring is becoming a little more balanced as the season goes on. Mills and Brendan Zerfoss led the way for the Bobcats with 7 points each. Gavin Brinkley dropped 6 points, Jacob Burns had 3, while Harrison Porter and Drew Wrhen each netted 2 points.

For the Berries, Golden had a game high 8 points while Moore added 5.

02/26/14 Clarion vs Redbank Valley

It was a low scoring game with good defense by the Bobcats and it was just enough to give Clarion’s B-Team their 8th consecutive victory. The Bulldogs got out to an early 6-4 lead, but Clarion’s defense was able to shut out Redbank in the second AND third quarters.

Marshall Powers, Brendan Zerfoss, Adam Saylor, and Oscar Suzuki played outstanding defense, creating turnovers and anticipating passes. Henry Baldwin displayed great ball control and helped Clarion control the offense throughout the game.

Clarion outscored Redbank Valley 11-0 in the middle of the game. Harmon for the Bulldogs hit a 3-point shot as Redbank won the 4th quarter 3-1. Clarion won 16-9 in a game that saw players that don’t get as much playing time step up and play key roles in the victory.

Archer Mills was the leading scorer for Clarion, with only 3 points. Jacob Burns, Brendan Zerfoss, Drew Wrhen, Marshall Powers, Conner Nichols, and Greg Kalinowski all had 2 points while Isaac Kim made a free throw.

For the Bulldogs, Troup had a game high 4 points, Harmon had 3 and Keighley netted 2.

Clarion moves to 8-3 on the season. Their next game is on Friday, 2/28 as they look to get revenge on an early season loss to the C-L Lions.

(Thanks to Coach Craig for these recaps. Keep up the good work guys!!!!)
