Delta Wins 2 In Clarion Little League Action (05/25/14)

Delta vs Burns and Burns – Monday, May 19
Delta Contractors had a big week in Clarion Little League Action. Delta Contractors improved to 4-5 on Monday, May 19th, with a 4 to 3 win over Burns and Burns. Delta, behind the pitching of Chase Kriebel and Bryson Huwar, held Burns and Burns to four hits on the evening. Kriebel pitched four complete innings, giving up two hits and two runs, while striking out seven. Huwar pitched two innings giving up two hits, one run, and striking out two.

Ethan Burford started the game on the mound for Burns and Burns and Hayden Callen came in for relief. Delta hits were compiled by Kriebel (double), DiTullio (2 singles), Slaugenhaup (single), Huwar (2 singles), and Coulson (single). Burns hits collected by: Callen (triple), Staub (Single), and Schmader (2 doubles).

Delta vs SMI – Tuesday, May 20
Delta Contractors improved to 5-5 with an upset, 9-8 win over SMI on Tuesday, May 20. This hard fought battle was exciting from the start. Cole Slaugenhaup pitched a gem of a game, for his second win of the year on the mound and had the game winning hit. DiTullio picked up the save for Delta. Slaugenhaup gave up six runs, in his work on the mound, striking out five. DiTullio gave up two runs and stuck out three.

Ketner started on the mound for Delta and Reinsel came in for relief. The SMI pitchers struck out two batters apiece. Skylar Rhoades had a big night at the plate for SMI, belting two homeruns and a double and Daniel Ketner followed with 1 single and 2 doubles, but it wasn’t enough as the Delta Contractors continued to battle and came out with the win. Entering the sixth inning, Delta was up 8 – 6. SMI exploded for two runs, pushed in by a double by Simko. Delta came to bat in the bottom half of the inning. Brady Fowkes walked and Cole Slaugenhaup ripped a double to left field, scoring Fowkes, giving Delta the win.

SMI collected 9 hits on the evening, led by Rhoades (2 homeruns, 1 double), Ketner ( 1 single, 2 doubles), Simko (double), Reinsel (single), and Park (single) and collected 8 runs.
Delta collected 5 hits, Kriebel (double), Slaugenhaup (2 doubles), Huwar (double), and Garduno (double).
