Janney Downs Subway In Interleague Softball On Saturday (05/04/14)
Janney traveled to New Bethlehem, on Saturday for an interleague game with Subway.
The Clarion squad opened the game with 5 runs, in the top of the first, on their way to a 16-4, four inning victory. After holding Subway scoreless, in the bottom of the inning, Janney scored 5 more runs in the top of the second. Subway scored one run in the bottom of the inning and Janney led 10-1 after two.
The visitors scored 2 in the top of the third, with the home team pushing 1 run across the plate in the bottom of the inning, moving the score to Janney 12 – Subway 2, heading into the fourth.
Janney doubled up Subway 4 to 2, in the fourth to set the 16-4, final.
A number of Clarion girls had big days at the plate. Nikki Shumaker had a homerun and a double. Dorothy Kalinowski nearly hit for the cycle with a triple, double and single. Kaitlyn Constantino had two doubles and Kendall Dunn and Brenna Campbell each finished with two singles.
Three Janney pitchers combined for a three-hitter. Constantino started in the circle for Janney. She went one inning, striking out 2 batters, giving up 1 hit and a base on balls, while allowing no runs. Constantino was relieved by Shumaker, who went the next two innings. Shumaker threw 3 strikeouts. She gave up 2 runs on 1 hit, while issuing five walks.
Kalinowski was the closer, going the last inning. She gave up 2 runs on 1 hit. She struck out one batter and issued three free passes.
