Lady Cats Softball TeamDrops Hard Fought Game To Redbank Valley (05/04/14)

The young Lady Cats Softball Team traveled to New Bethlehem last Tuesday, to face the Lady Bulldogs of Redbank Valley. The Cats put up a strong fight before dropping a 15-10 decision.

Clarion jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, with Johnna Rapp opening with a single and later coming around to score. Also scoring in the inning were Cora Zerfoss and Caitlyn Hill.  The Bobcats held the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs in the top of the second, Keanna Over singled, followed by another base hit by Rapp. Over later came around to score. Redbank Valley would score three runs in their half of the inning and Clarion led 4-3 heading to the third.

Hill tripled to open the third inning and later scored on an error, to give the Bobcats a 5-3 lead. But the Bulldogs would bounce back in a big way in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight runs, giving Redbank Valley an 11-3 lead.

Over singled to open the fourth inning.  She moved to second on an error and then stole third. Then Rapp reached base on a throwing error. Over scored on the play. Redbank Valley failed to score in the bottom of the inning and neither team scored in the fifth.

With the Bulldogs holding an 11-6 lead the Bobcats mounted a comeback, as they batted around, in the top of the sixth. Rapp opened the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Zerfoss was hit by a pitch. Later in the inning, Hill walked to load the bases. A single by Aliya Reed scored Rapp.

Shamecka Dittman followed with a single to score Zerfoss. Hill would later score on a wild pitch and a single by Erica Peterson would score pinch runner Lexa McGill to close out the Bobcats’ scoring. Clarion now trailed by just one rune 11-10.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, and held the Bobcats scoreless in the seventh to set the 15-10 final.

The Lady Cats had a strong showing, despite the loss.

Statistics for the Lady Cats: Rapp had 3 hits and scored twice. Over had 2 hits and scored two runs, Peterson had 2 hits and an RBI. Hill had 1 hit, the triple and scored three runs. Reed and Dittman each had 1 hit and an RBI. Zerfoss scored twice, Bowser had an RBI and McGill scored a run.

The Lady Cats will play A-C Valley at the Parker Field on Monday.
