Rising Stars 16-U Boys Win Championship In Pittsburgh May Challenge Tournament Over Weekend (05/07/14)

Three Rising Stars Boys Basketball Teams competed in tournaments this past weekend. The 16-U and 17-U Teams competed in the Pittsburgh May Challenge and the 14-U Team competed at Slippery Rock University.

The 16-U Team won the Championship at Pittsburgh, going 3-1 for the tournament.

Members of the Championship Team are Nadir Lynch and Taylor Smith from Clarion Area; Sam Heeter from Redbank Valley; Dan Callen and Noah Rankin from Clarion-Limestone; Brady Kingston from Venango Catholic; Nathan Ray from Punxutawney; Kai Skinner and Tyler Gates from Titusville; and Nathan Alabran from Marion Center. They are coached by Rogers Laugand.

The 17-U Team went 1-2. Both of their losses were by 9 points.

At Slippery Rock, the 14-U Team finished 1-2, with both of their losses being very close. They lost one of their games by five points. The other game went to double overtime, with the Rising Stars losing by just one point.

There will be four Rising Stars in action in a tournament in The Westmoreland Classic in Greensburg, this coming weekend: 17-U Boys, 15-U Boys, 13-U Girls and 13-U Boys.
