Softball Team Drops A Pair Of Games (05/07/14)

The Clarion Softball team dropped a pair of games to AC Valley on May 5th and to Cranberry on May 6th.

The Lady Cats traveled to Parker for a 6:00 matchup with AC Valley coming on the short end 10-7 score . ACV took a 4-0 lead into the 4th inning, before the Clarion offense tallied a run, in the top of the 4th. Olivia Bartley led off the inning by reaching on an error. Brittany Strotman then delivered a two out single, driving in Bartley.

The Falcons increased their lead by scoring four runs, in the bottom of the fourth, to stretch it to 8-1.

In the top of the fifth, Clarion came back with a pair of runs. Keanna Over led off the inning by drawing a walk. She promptly stole second base and scored on Johnna Rapp’s single. Rapp then scored on Bartley’s sacrifice fly, to make it an 8-3 game.

The Bobcats continued to to close the gap with four more runs in the fifth. Caitlyn Hill led off the inning with a sharp single. After two outs, Stephanie Slike was hit by a pitch. Over drew a walk loading the bases. Johnna Rapp then ripped a double, scoring Slike and Over. Rapp would later score on a wild pitch to get the Bobcats within one run at 8-7.

That would be as close as they would get as ACV tallied two more runs in the bottom of the of the frame to make a 10-7 final score.

Johnna Rapp pitched for Clarion, fanning five Falcon hitters. She also led the offense with three RBI’S, a double and a
single while scoring twice. Keanna Over also scored two runs while Hill, Bartley and Slike also scored a run apiece. Aliya Reed also chipped in with a hit.

The May 6th game with Cranberry was played at Weaver Park, with Cranberry winning 10-0 in five innings.

Johnna Rapp had the only hit for Clarion with a line drive single in the fourth. She also pitched striking out one batter and walking three.

The game was close early on as the Berries took a 2-0 lead into the third. Cranberry then scored four in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to close out the scoring.
