Rotary Wins Two More In Clarion Little League Action (05/23/14)

Rotary won two more games in Clarion Little League action. Manager, Garrett Goheen provides these recaps.

Rotary 5 Pizza Pub 4
Rotary defeated Pizza Pub 5-4 in Clarion Little League action Tuesday night.

Pub got off to an early advantage when Josh Craig scored on a misplayed ball that Micheal Snyder hit in the top of the first. Rotary starter Curvin Goheen escaped further damage when he recorded a strikeout with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the inning.

Rotary took the lead with a 4 run bottom of the first. After 2 outs Goheen was hit by a pitch. Greg Kalinowski singled then each scored when Hunter Craddock reached on an outfield error. Hayden Siegel also reached on an error and both he and Craddock scored on Matt Terwillgers 2RBI single. After 1 inning, Rotary had a 4-1 lead.

Pub cut the lead to 1 in the 2nd inning. Goheen booked 2 strikeouts to start the inning, then allowed a single to Bryson Huwar. Josh Craig followed that up with a single of his own. Both advanced on a passed ball before they scored on a throwing error. Rotary Catcher Cam LaPinto then made a spectacular diving catch of a pop up to record the third out.

Rotary made no threat in the 2nd and after 2 complete innings the score was Rotary 4 Pub 3.

Goheen struck out the side in the top of the 3rd, and Pub Reliever Nate Datko worked a scoreless bottom of the 3rd as well. Goheen worked a scoreless 4th and Datko answered with a dominating 4th striking out the side on 14 pitches.

Goheen struck out the leadoff batter in the top of the 5th and then was pulled due to pitch count restrictions. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk. Calvin German came on in relief and struck out 2 batters after a Snyder single to keep the Rotary lead at 4-3.

Rotary added a much needed insurance run in the bottom of the 5th when German singled and stole 2nd. He scored on Goheen’s single. Rotary went quietly after the Goheen RBI and led 5-3 after 5 innings.

Huwar drew a 1 out walk to start the top of the 6th. Craig followed that with a single. Huwar was plated when Datko reached on an error giving Rotary a slim 1 run lead. Following a passed ball which moved Craig to third and Datko to 2nd German recorded back to back strikeouts to end the game. German finished with 5 strikeouts and only 1 walk in 1 2/3 innings.

Josh Craig had a 3 hit game for Pub.

Rotary 15 Lions 0
Rotary defeated Lions 15-0 Wednesday Night in Clarion Little League action.

Nick Fredderick was the hard luck losing pitcher for Lions. He allowed only 1 earned run while striking out 6 (including 5 in a row at one point) before being lifted due to pitch count restrictions.

Cam Lapinto was masterful in his first ever little league pitching performance. He threw a 2 hit shutout for the win. LaPinto was aided in the field by Hayden Siegel and Cal German’s slick fielding. The short stop 2nd base combo assisted on 7 outs including a 4-6-3 inning ending double play in the 3rd.

Rotary scored in the top of the first when Curvin Goheen drew a leadoff walk and scored 2 batters later on German’s RBI hit.

The score remained 1-0 until with 2 outs in the top of the 4th Rotary scored 14 unearned runs.

Fredderick and Ben Smith had hits for Lions.

LaPinto, Siegel, and Travis Devey each had multi-hit games for Rotary, while German, Greg Kalinowski, Hunter Craddock, and Beau Verdill each had one hit a piece. Ethan Judlin scored 2 runs during the outburst as well.

(Thanks to Coach Goheen for these recaps.)
