Clarion Track and Field Club Grabs Top Places at 20th Annual Mountain Top Invitational (06/16/16)

The newly formed Clarion Track and Field Club participated in the 20th Annual Mountain Top Invitational Saturday June 11 at Cambria Heights High School in Cresson, PA.

Several athletes from Clarion and Knox competed against 150 competitors in running and field events. The event was affiliated with USA Track and Field Three Rivers, one of 57 nationwide USA Track and Field associations.

Isaac Lerch in the 9-10 year old boys division came in 5th place in the 100 meter dash. He placed 3rd in the 200 meter race and 5th in the long jump.

Payton Simko, Evelyn Lerch and Jozee Weaver competed in the 11-12 year old girls division. Simko placed 5th in a very competitive field in the 100 meter dash, 5th in the 400 meters, 4th in the 80 meter hurdles and 5th in the long jump. Lerch placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash, 1st in the 200 meters, 1st in the 80 meter hurdles and 2nd in the long jump. Weaver placed 2nd in the 400 meter race, 5th in the 80 meter hurdles and 1st in the high jump.

Nathaniel Lerch competed in the 13-14 year old division and placed 2nd in the 400 meters, 4th in the 800 meters and 1st in the high jump.

Tessa Weaver competed in the 15-16 girls division in 4 events. Weaver took 4th in the 100 meters, 3rd in the 200 meters 3rd in the 100 hurdles and 7th in the long jump.

Coach Tammy Lerch, a former collegiate sprinter and middle distance runner, said of the club’s first track meet, “I was impressed with the way our new club performed on a big stage. Several of the runners will be traveling to California University this weekend to compete at Three Rivers USA Track and Field Championships. Its refreshing to see the work ethic these athletes have during the summer months.”
