Lady Cats Soccer Team Downs Punxy, Playoffs Next (10/23/17)

(By Coach Chris Schonbachler)
Thursday (October 19th) evening the Clarion Area Lady Cats soccer team hosted their final regular season game against Punxsutawney.

2017 Seniors: Gabby Weaver, Alish Nagy, Alexa Kriebel, Rachael Grabiak, Natalie Glenn, Hope Hazlett and Alexa Hannold

It was senior night for the Lady Cats as they recognized those playing their final season, Rachel Grabiak, Gabby Weaver, Natalie Glenn, Alexa Hannold, Alish Nagy, Hope Hazlett, and Alexa Kriebel.
Clarion got off to a fast start possessing the ball passing effectively.  The hard work paid off with a goal from Alexa Hannold and another from Lauren Troutman early in the first half.  Hannold would add a second later in the half to give the Ladycats a 3-0 lead at the half.  In the second half Cait Murtha took over goalkeeping duties from Wendy Beveridge.  Beveridge took advantage of her field opportunity by adding a 4th goal for Clarion.
The sister duo of Alish and Molly Nagy shared in the scoring for Clarion adding a goal each, the 4th for Alish this season and Molly’s 1st goal as a Ladycat.  Alexa Hannold would add another goal, completing her hat trick and bringing her goal total for the regular season to 17.  Cait Murtha secured the shutout in goal and the Lady Cat defense had another great game, limiting and scoring chances Punxy attempted.
The team finishes the regular season with a record of 12-6.  They will begin District 9 playoffs at home on Tuesday, October 24th when they face Redbank Valley.  Congratulations once again to our senior class players, on behalf of Clarion Area and Clarion-Limestone School Districts I would like to thank you for your dedication to the team and success at being great representatives of our school districts.
(Thanks to Coach Schonbachler for this article. Congratulations Seniors!!! Have a great run in Districts, Lady Cats!!!!)
