Clarion Area Track Teams Fare Well At Butler Invitational, Laken Lewis Breaks School Record In Pole Vault (04/23/18)

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Track Teams competed at the 54th Annual Butler Invitational, at Art Bernardi Stadium, on Friday, April 20th. There were over 1600 athletes competing, representing 72 schools, with the top eight in each event medaling.

Laken Lewis finished second in theGirls pole vault, breaking her own school record, going 10-7. Her previous mark was 10-0. Laken also medaled in the high jump, taking eighth, with a leap of 4-11. She also competed in the triple jump, going 32-4, finishing 22nd.

Brendan Zerfoss medaled twice in the Boys meet taking fourth in the 400, with a time of 51.27 and sixth in the 200, running a 23.59. Brendan finished twelfth in the 100, going 11.72. He had an 11.64 in the prelims.

Gavin Brinkley took twelfth  in the Boys high jump, going 5-9.

Don Cunningham, Austin Hummel, Marshall Powers and Zerfoss ran a 3:46.65, in the Boys 4x4oo, good for sixteenth place. Tom Hearst finished nineteenth in the Boys pole vault, at 10-7. Nick Schill, Cunningham, Noah Schill and Austin Hummell finished nineteenth in the 4×800, with an 8:54.20.

Kyara Girvan, Ali Troese, Gabby Weaver and Phylicia Hockman were nineteenth in the Girls 4×400, running a 4:50.22. Hockman was twenty-fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:34.69.

Other Clarion athletes competing included: for the Girls – Gabriella Fleming, Lexi Lauer, Grace Matson and Maddie Schill; for the Boys – Ethan Burford, Harrison Porter and Frank Weber.
