Basketball Round-up: Boys’ And Girls’ Teams Each Go 1-1 On The Week (12/22/18)

The Clarion Area Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Teams were in action This past Tuesday (December 18th) and Thursday (December 20th).

Tuesday’s games:

Boys: The visiting Bobcats notched a 75-44 win over Cranberry. Nick Frederick led the Cats with 21 points. Cal German had 20 and Archer Mills had twelve.

Clarion led 24-10 after one period, 46-28 at the half and 62-41 heading to the fourth.

Matt McQuaide and J. T. Stahlman each scored twenty for the Berries.

Girls: The homestanding Lady Cats were also victorious, defeating the Lady Berries 52-44.

Kaitlyn Constantino led Clarion with 14 points and seven rebounds. Wendy Beveridge also scored in double-figures with eleven. She also had 5 blocked shots and five rebounds.

Kyara Girvan also had a good all-round game with 9 points, 6 rebounds and six steals.

Clarion led 18-7 after one period and 30-21 at the half. The Lady Cats extended their lead to 14-21 after three.

Cranberry’s Malliah Schreck led all scorers with thirty-three points.

Friday’s games:

Boys: The Bobcats fell to North Clarion 72-57, at Frills Corners.

Cal German led the Cats with 17 points. Archer Mills and Nick Frederick each had eight points.

The Wolves held leads of 21-19 after the first, 35-28 at halftime and 57-45 at the three-quarter mark.

Kyle Mills led North Clarion with 23 points, while Tyler McCord-Wolbert followed with eleven.

Girls: The Lady Cats lost a close 49-45 decision to the She-Wolves.

Wendy Beveridge led Clarion with 19 points, while Jordan Best followed with ten.

North Clarion led 13-11 after one. Clarion held a two-point 22-20 lead at the half. The She-Wolves held a 45-30 lead after three.

Haley Sherman and Mackenzie Bauer had eleven apiece for North Clarion.

The Bobcats will be competing in the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament in Punxsutawney next Thursday and Friday (December 28th and 29th), with the Lady Cats participating in the Kane Christmas Tournament those same.
