Track And Field: Clarion Splits With Keystone (04/04/19)

The Clarion Area Track Teams hosted Keystone on Wednesday (April 4th) and came away with a split.

Coach Pennington shares this article: Both teams rallied against each other and the wind today. Event staff made the call not to host the pole vault due to the strong wind gusts for the safety of the athletes.

The Clarion Boys came out on top 72-70, with a strong showing from the Schill Brothers, both playing their part on the 4X8 relay and Nick winning the mile and third in the 2 mile, and Noah the 800 and second in the 400.

Nathaniel Lerch took second in the mile and made a strong comeback to win the 2 mile.

The Clarion Boys swept the 800 for the second time this season. Adding to Noah’s top finish were Don Cunningham and Dan Ketner.

In the field, Gavin Brinkley gathered wins in all 3 jumps, taking the triple jump with a leap of 39’10. Clay McElravy had a great day in the throws, delivering winning performances in the Shot and discus and second in Javelin. Newcomer Nate Kaltenbach added a second in the discus and third in shot.

For the girls, Rebekah Ketner brought in a second in the shot and 2 thirds in javelin and discus.

Thought the Lady Cats fell to Keystone 51-86, we had some strong performances from a few of our girls. Wendy Beveridge had 2 first place finishes in the 100 with a district qualifying time 13.44 converted and the long jump with a leap of 16’10.5.  She also took second behind teammate Laken Lewis who won the triple and high jumps. Laken also took second in the long jump.

Also on the track for the ladies, Phylicia Hockman took first in the 800 and second in the 400. Bella Scott was easing her way back today from an injury and took first place in the mile. Gabriella Fleming added some points with a second in the mile and third in the 800. Assistant Coach B.J. Roth has done a fine job tweaking out experienced jumpers and I couldn’t say more about how he conditions and strengthens our mid and distance runners.

Overall we had a consistent showing for both the boys and girls teams.

(Thanks to Coach Pennington for this article. Keep up the great work, Cats!!!!)
