In 2014, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the United States and beyond, including ceremonies at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, as well as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and the sites of the September 11 tragedies.  The organization’s goal of covering Arlington National Cemetery was met in 2014 with the placement of 226,525 wreaths.

The event continues to grow year after year.  In 2018, Wreaths Across America shipped a staggering 1.75 MILLION wreaths to over 1,640 locations that held ceremonies across the USA, plus a few dozen locations overseas participated as well.  Wreath’s Across America was granted permission to place wreaths at Normandy to honor those who died during World War II’s D-Day invasion.

In 2019, Clarion Cemetery was granted permission to place wreaths in honor of our veterans.

Why Clarion Football?  Coach Wiser began his career as a history teacher at Clarion Area High School.  His accomplishments as a teacher equal that of his football conference titles and legendary teams and wins.  Clarion Football believes in a foundation of team, tradition and me.  For our athletes, our community is both part of our team and our tradition.

Clarion Football has always been dedicated to giving back.  However this year, with the combination of athletes from three schools, our service focused on honoring our past, our Veterans who may also be alumni, grandparents, aunts, uncles or teachers that served our country and came from our home.  Our team has found over 550 sponsors for the 734 Clarion Cemetery veterans.

Our goal is complete coverage of all of our hometown heroes.  However we cannot do this without the support of our community.  We are 140 wreaths shy of every veteran grave site honored with a wreath.  Please visit www.ClarionFootball.com and purchase your wreaths today and to volunteer to lay wreaths on wreath day. Help us ensure no gravesite is left uncovered.

Clarion Football players and their families will be on site at Clarion Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 14th, beginning at 12:00 Noon, to honor and respect the dedicated veterans who protected our home. We invite area residents and other area football teams to come and lay wreath’s during this very important tribute.

(Thank you to Clancy Porciello for this article and photos. Please join in this wonderful tribute to our veterans, by sponsoring a wreath or wreaths and by volunteering to lay wreaths at the Clarion Cemetery, on Saturday, December 14th.)
