Basketball: Bobcat Boys Win Opener In Truance Classic, Lady Cats Fall In Kane Tourney Opener (12/28/19)

The Clarion Area Bobcat Boys won their opening round game in the Carl A. Truance Holiday Classic in Punxsutawney, on Friday (December 27th), defeating Bald Eagle 52-49. The Lady Cats fell to North Clarion 49-36, in the opening round of the Kane Holiday Tournament.

Boys Game: Clarion 52 – Bald Eagle 49

The Bobcats led 25-16 after one period. The Bald Eagles had an 18-11 edge i the second, sending the game to halftime with Clarion leading by two, 36-34. with a 13-4 advantage in the third, Bald Eagle took a 47-40 lead into the final stanza, where the Cats clamped down defensively, limiting Bald Eagle to 2 points, while scoring twelve to record the three-point victory.

Cal German led the Bobcats with a game high 26 points, including a pair of three-point baskets. Nick Frederick followed with ten points. Skylar Rhoades scored 6 points. Josh Craig and Hunter Craddock each had 4 points, while Beau Verdill scored two points.

Jaden Jonesled the Bald Eagles with 16 points. Nick Maynard had 12 points and Luke Wilson had ten.

The Bobcats will face Punxsutawney, 52-44 winners over Marion Center, in the Tournament Championship, today (Saturday, December 28th).

Girls Game: North Clarion 49 – Clarion 36

North Clarion led 12-7 after one and with a 17-5 advantage in the second, led 29-12 at the half. With an 11-8 edge in the third, the She-Wolves led 40-20 after three. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Cats with a 16-9 advantage, setting the final at 49-36 North Clarion.

Kait Constantino led all scorers with twenty points. Payton Simko had 7 points, Ava Cherico had 5, Jordan Best had 4 and Noel Anthony had one point. Constantino and Cherico each hit a three.

North Clarion was led by Abby Gatesman with 11, Gabby Schmader had 10, and Mackenzie Bauer and Haley Sherman each had nine.

The Lady Cats will face Eisenhower in the consolation game, today (Saturday, December 28th).
