Big Day For Clarion Area On Hardwood, Bobcats Win Truance Tourney, Lady Cats Take Kane Consolation Game (12/29/19)

Both Clarion Area Basketball Teams were successful on Saturday, December 28th. The Bobcat Boys won the Carl Truance Holiday Classic at Punxutawney High School, with a 65-32 win over the host Chucks, in the Championship game, and the Lady Cats came back to win the consolation game 63-23 over Eisenhower in the Kane Christmas Tournament.

Boys: Clarion 65 – Punxsutawney 32

Cal German, who scored a game high 26 points, was named MVP after leading Clarion to victory in the Championship game.

The Bobcats led 22-5 after one period, and with an 11-8 advantage in the second quarter, they went into halftime leading 33-13. The third quarter saw the Cats outscore the Chucks 18-6, giving Clarion a 51-19 edge heading to the final stanza. Clarion had a 14-13 fourth quarter edge to set the final.

Hunter Craddock and Nick Frederick had 13 and eight points respectively, with each joining Cal on the All-Tournament Team.

Josh Craig had seven points and Skylar Rhoades had five.

Punxy was led by Daren Byers, who scored ten points.

Girls: Clarion 63 – Eisenhower 23

KANE CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

Kait Constantino led the Lady Cats with 20 points and Jordan Best followed with fourteen.

Payton Simko followed with eight points. Ava Cherico had 7points and Noel Anthony and Bekah Ketner had six points apiece.

Kait was named to the All-Tournament Team. Payton was named to the JV All-Tournament Team.

North Clarion defeated Kane 43-34 in the Championship game.
