Basketball: Clarion Splits Doubleheader With Redbank Valley (12/18/19)

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Teams split a doubleheader with visiting Redbank Valley, on Tuesday (December 17th). The Bobcat Boys won their contest 82-61, while the Lady Cats fell 66-60.

Boys’ Game

The first period ended in a 21-all tie. The Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 16-12 in the second and led 37-33 at the half. With a ten-point, 25-15, Clarion edge in the third, the Cats held a 62-48 lead heading to the final quarter, where a 20-13 Clarion advantage set the 82-61 final.

Clarion’s Cal German led all scorers with 28 points. Nick Frederick also had a big game with twenty-three.

Hunter Craddock had 10 points, while Josh Craig scored nine. Skyler Rhoades, Beau Verdill and Christian Simko contributed 6, 4 and 2 points respectively.

German had a pair of three-pointers, and Frederick and Craig each connected on one three-point shot.

Redbank Valley was led by Owen Magagnotti’s twenty points. Chris Marshall had 18 points and Bryson Bain followed with sixteen.

The Bobcats will travel to Cranberry on Thursday (December 18th).

Girls’ Game

Clarion’s Kait Constantino and Redbank Valley’s Tara Hinderliter nearly matched each other point-for-point, in leading their teams, with Constantino bucketing 29 and Hinderliter scoring twenty-seven.

The Lady Cats held an 18-17 lead, after one and with a 14-11 advantage in the second, had a 32-28 lead at the half. With a 20-8 third period edge, the Lady Bulldogs led 48-40 lead heading to the fourth. Redbank Valley outscored Clarion 20-18 in the final stanza, setting the 66-60 final.

Following Constantino, KK Girvan had 12 points for Clarion and Jordan Best had 9 points. Payton Simko and Noel Anthony followed with 6 and 4 points respectively.

The Lady Cats will host Cranberry on Thursday.
