Following a successful first season, the Central Clarion Wildcats Football Team had a number of players and coaches selected to take part in three All-Star Games. All were recognized at the Team Banquet on Sunday, April 18th.
Cutter Boggess and Ethan Burford were selected to play for the West Squad in the Pennsylvania Scholastic Coaches Association’s (PSFCA) Class 1A-3A East/West Game. They are the fourth and fifth Clarion Area athletes, and first ever for the Wildcats to be named to a statewide All-Star game (Big 33: Theo Lawrence – 1972, Chuck Ruslavage – 1981, John Marshall – 1983; East/West: Kyle Cathcart – 2002 (didn’t play due to injury, Nathan McClaine – 2004). Zak Bauer was first alternate for the West Squad in 2018.
Coach Larry Wiser was also an assistant in both the Big 33 (2016 – Pennsylvania) and East/West games (2010 – West), as well as being a Head Coach in the East/West Game (2019 – West).
Previously, there was only one East/West Game each year, for players from all classifications. This year there will be two games, this game for players from schools in the 1A-3A classifications and another for players from schools in the 4A thru 6A classifications.
The games, along with the Big 33 Game (Pennsylvania versus Maryland) will take place on Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday, May 30th, at Landis Field (Central Dauphin School District) in Harrisburg. The 1A-3A game is set for noon, with the 4A-6A game starting at 5:00PM. The games will be live-streamed on PAFootballNews.com.
Five Wildcat players, will be participating as members of the North Squad, in the Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association (CPFCA) Lezzer Lumber Game, to be held at Tyrone on Sunday, June 6th. Joining Cutter and Ethan will be Hunter Craddock, Beau Verdill and Cal German. Coach Wiser will be the North Head Coach, with his Wildcats’ staff handling many of the Assistant Coaching positions.
The Lezzer Lumber Classic features some of the top football players from over thirty schools of all size classifications, from throughout Central Pennsylvania. The Wildcats are the furthest west team participating from an area that goes as far north as Brockway, south to below Altoona and east past State College. The Lezzer Lumber Classic is one of the longest running regional all-star games in the state.
Six Wildcats will compete for the KSAC Squad, in the sixth Annual Frank Varischetti All-Star Game, at Frank Varischetti Field, in Brockway. Joining Hunter, Beau, Cutter, Ethan and Cal in this contest will be Kyle Bottaro and Logan Lerch.
This area all-star game is a match-up featuring top graduated seniors from the District Nine League. The game follows the format that was used before the District Nine League was formed, with one team consisting players from schools from the old Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) and the other team consisting of players from the old Allegheny Mountain League (AML).
Details for the Varischetti Game are not complete, as of publication of this article.
