Softball: Lady Cats Down Lady Raiders In Five Innings, Clinch Playoff Berth

The Clarion Area Lady Cats defeated the homestanding Brookville Lady Raiders 19-6 in five innings, in non-conference softball action, on Tuesday (May 18th). With the win, the 9-8 Lady Cats clinched a spot in the District Nine playoffs.

Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Clarion put five runs on the board, in both the second and third inning to take a 12-2 lead. Neither team scored in the fourth. The Cats scored seven runs in the top of the seventh, while the Raiders scored four in their half of the inning to set the final.

Four players had doubles for the Lady Cats, Brenna Campbell with two, Jordan Best, Kylee Beers and Payton Simko. Campbell, Best, Beers and Noel Anthony each finished with three hits total, with Simko also having a single.

Campbell drove in two runs and scored three times. Best scored four times and had three RBIs. Anthony drove in a run and crossed the plate three times and Beers had four RBIs. Simko scored twice and driove in a run.

Emily Troese and MaKenzie Aaron had two hits apiece, with Troese scoring twice and driving in a run and Aaron scoring once with an RBI. Brianna Forrest singled and scored a pair of runs, while Ava Kiser singled and scored a run.

Clarion will host Moniteau today (Wednesday, May 18th).
