With the retirement of Hall of Fame Coach Larry Wiser, former Offensive Coordinator Dave Eggleton has taken over the reigns of the Central Clarion Wildcats Football program in 2021. Coach Eggleton was on the the Clarion Bobcats’ staff in 2019 and the newly formed Wildcats in 2020, after spending six seasons as the Clarion-Limestone Lions’ mentor.

The Wildcats finished the 2020 campaign with a 5-2 record and a spot in the District Nine Class-AA semifinals.

The Wildcats lost a number of key players to graduation from the 2020 squad, including All-State players Cal German, Ethan Burford, Cutter Boggess and Beau Verdill, but have a good core of returnees who made major contributions to the team.

Among those key players are: Cooper Shall (Slot/Safety), Breckin Rex (Running Back Linebacker), Kaoz Baker (Two-way Lineman), Luca Cherico(Two-way Lineman), Christian Simko (Wide Receiver/Defensive Back), Cole Wrhen (Two-way Lineman), Kolten Bradley (Offensive Lineman, Ryan Hummell (Defensive Back), Tommy Smith (Defensive End).

The quarterback duties will be shared by Hummell and Jase Ferguson.

Coach Eggleton shared his expectations for this season’s Wildcats. “We want to focus on getting better each week. If we do that, we will be in the position we want to be at the end of the season.

He added, :I am excited to begin the season. We have had great workouts all winter, spring and summer. This group of guys have really stepped up.”

Coach Eggleton likes what he sees from the guys up front. “We have several players who have had a great camp so far, but one unit that stands out for me is our offensive line. This group has been working very hard and is going to be much improved over last years team. We have 7 guys working in those 5 spots. Luca Cherico, Cole Wrhen, Kolton Bradley, Kaoz Baker, Mason Songer, Ian Hagen, and Kaleb Kiehl.”

Assisting Coach Eggleton, on the Wildcats’ staff will be Dave Louder, Cam Kirkland, Doug Knepp, Mike Ferguson and Kevin “Fonzie” Slike.
