The Clarion Area Bobcats competed in the 2021 Pennhills Golf Club Bradford Invitational on Saturday (September 11th), coming away with a third place finish, in the fourteen team field.

Three Bobcat Golfers competed, Kameron Kerle, Devon Lauer and Mckayla Kerle.

Kameron shot an 81, Devon an 86 and Mckayla an 88, for a team total of 255, just five strokes of the pace of First Place finisher DuBois (250) and two off of second place Bradford Red Team (253). Rounding out the Top Five Teams were Kane in fourth place with a 256 and Coudersport in fifth with a 261.

Kameron’s 81 was good for fifth place, while Devon finished twelfth and Mckayla thirteenth out of a field of 42 golfers.

Bradford Red Team’s Spencer Cornelius was the Medalist, carding a 75.

Two other area teams competed. Brookville finished with 285. The Raiders individual golfers and scores were: Bryce Rafferty (88), Lillian Radel (95), Ian Pete (102). Cranberry finished with a 307. The Berries individual golfers and scores were: Cayden Baker (99), Dane Wenner (101), Preston Forest (107)

The complete list of teams competing in this years tournament included: Clarion, Bradford Red, Bradford Black, Brookville, Clearfield, Cranberry, Coudersport, DuBois, Kane, Oswayo Valley, Punxsutawney, Ridgway and Smethport and St. Marys.

Coach Jackie Kerle had this to say about the outing, “This tournament was good preparation for districts which will be held at the same course later this month (Sept. 27th).

“This is the first time competing against other District Nine teams outside of the KSAC. Our three played mediocre rounds but still played well enough to secure a 3rd place finish. The two teams that beat us were both AAA schools.

“Next week we will be traveling to a two-day 36 hole District Ten Invitational, hosted by Erie’s Cathedral Prep, at Meadville County Club. This will be a great opportunity to play against other competition outside of the district.”

You may have noticed in the photo that the flag was at half staff. Coach Kerle mentioned, “Yes, the flag was at half-staff and before the round we all had a moment of silence to remember the 3,000+ lives that were lost in the 9/11 attacks 20 years prior- (none of the golfers that were playing yesterday were even born yet)”

One of the thousands of tributes on Saturday. May we never forget!

(Great outing, Bobcat Golfers Devon, Kameron and Mckayla!!!!)
