Lady Cats Volleyball Opens Season With Home Win Over Berries

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team opened their 2021 campaign with an impressive three-set win, at home on Tuesday (September 7th) over the Cranberry Lady Berries.
The Lady Cats never trailed in the opening set, cruising to a 23-13 win. Korrin Burns had a number of kills in the set and was strong at the net all night, finishing with eighteen. She also had 3 points (3 aces) and three digs. Adia Needham and Grace Ochs each had a number of service points in the set. Adia finished the night with 14 points (7aces) and a pair of digs, with Grace contributing 6 points (1 ace) and two digs.
The second set was tight for quite awhile. But after Cranberry tied the game at 12-all, the Cats had an 11-1 run, the final seven with Needham at the line, to take a 23-13 lead. The Berries pulled to within six, at 24-18, before Clarion scored the final point for a 25-18 win.
Clarion won the final set 25-14, with Payton Simko and Noel Anthony each having a number of service points. The Lady Cats led by as much as twelve points late in the set. Both Noel and Payton had good all-around matches. Noel scored 11 points (4 aces), while dishing out 26 assists, to go along with 5 digs and a kill. Payton had 6 points (3 aces), 2 kills and two digs.
Aryana Girvan had seven kills. Jordan Best scored one point and had a pair of digs. Taylor Alston had 2 kills, Gia Babington had 1 kill and Brianna Pierce had a dig.
The Lady Cats will host Venango Catholic on Thursday (September 9th) and will compete in the Wilson Tournament on Saturday (September 11th).
