Soccer: Lady Cats Fall In Hard Fought Game To Lady Rovers

(By Clarion Head Coach Chris Schonbachler)

The Clarion Lady Cats soccer team traveled to Brockway to face the Lady Rovers Tuesday (September 7th) evening.

Brockway’s Danielle Wood started the scoring with a terrific header off of a corner kick.

It wasn’t long before Clarion responded as Evelyn Lerch tied the game 1-1, with a goal assisted by Lexi Coull.

The two teams traded goals through most of the first half.

Alex Leadbetter scored Clarion’s second goal with an assist from Lerch. Lexi Coull added a third goal for Clarion with the help of an Allison Acey assist.

As the first half came to a close, Brockway was clinging to a 4-3 lead. The Lady Cats started the second half with an incredible energy level. They played a majority of the half in Brockway’s end of the field, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Lerch had a near miss with a header from a corner kick that hammered the left goalpost.

Brockway added a 5th goal on a breakaway that Clarion goalkeeper Chesney Boggess nearly collected at the 18 yard line.

Down 2 goals the Lady Cats managed to push their work rate even higher, pinning the Lady Rovers in their end. The hard work finally paid off, when Joyce Kim played an excellent ball through the Brockway defense that Lerch ran onto and netted her 2nd goal of the match.

The young Clarion defense continually improved through the game. Freshman Julianna Wilson played an outstanding game in the midfield as did Freshman Kaitlyn Guth on the defensive back line.

Unfortunately, time soon ran out for Clarion and the game ended as a 5-4 victory for the Lady Rovers. Although the game is recorded as a loss, the Clarion coaching staff could not have been more proud of the effort displayed by the Lady Cats Tuesday evening.

After 2 games the team is 1-1 and will face Forest Area at home Thursday (September 9th). Game time is 4:00.
