Clarion Boys And Girls Teams Drop Contests In “Hoops For Hope” Basketball Doubleheader At Keystone

The Clarion Area Bobcats Boys and Girls Basketball Teams traveled to Keystone on Saturday (January 22nd), for a “Hoops for Hope” Cancer Awareness and fundraiser doubleheader, with both squads dropping their games to the Panthers.

The Girls fell 35-33 in the first game and Boys lost 63-52, in the nightcap.

Girls Game

Rebekah Ketner led Clarion with eight points. Taylor Alston and Jordan Best had seven points apiece. Noel Anthony scored 5 points, Payton Simko had 4 and Gia Babington two.

Keystone led 12-5 after one. The Bobcats had a 7-6 edge in the second, sending the game to halftime with Keystone leading 18-12.

With a 12-4 Clarion advantage in the third, the Cats led by two, 24-22, heading to the final frame. But a 13-4 Panther edge in the fourth set the 35-33 final.

Keystone’s Natalie Bowser led her team with a game high twenty-three points.

Boys Game

Three Bobcats scored in double-figures, with Christian Simko leading the way with seventeen points. Devon Lauer followed with 14 and Dawson Smail had ten.

Christian Simko contributed 6 points, Aidan Quinn 4 and Ryan Alston one.

Keystone had a 9-8 advantage after the first period and led 28-17 after a 19-9 edge in the second. The Panthers outscored the Bobcats 18-17 third quarter, to lead by twelve, 46-34 going to the fourth. Clarion had an identical 18-17 edge in the last stanza, setting the 63-52 final.

Zander McHenry and Bret Wingard led the Panthers with 26 and 22 points respectively.

The Clarion Girls are scheduled to travel to Punxsutawney today (Monday, January 24th), while the Boys are scheduled to host Cranberry tomorrow (Tuesday, January 25th).
