Clarion Area Girls Soccer Team Set To Begin 2022 Campaign

The Clarion Area Bobcat Girls Soccer Team returned to the pitch on August 15th for preseason double day practices.
The roster is comprised of 17 athletes from Clarion Area and Clarion Limestone high schools. The team will work hard to keep improving year over year results.
The 2021 season saw the team fight numerous injuries while compiling a 5-10 regular season record. In the playoffs, the girls posted a quarterfinal win at Port Allegany before losing a heartbreaker to Brockway in the semi finals.
The team roster changes quite a bit from last year with 6 seniors graduating. Evelyn Lerch, Joyce Kim, and Robyn Stahlman were all in the starting lineup for the past few years. We do however, welcome back 2-time UAVSL All-Star Alexis Coull, starting goalie Chesney Boggess, midfielder Anna Gribik, and striker Alex Leadbetter. Our defensive core also returns with Abi Frederick and Mercedes Cunningham anchoring the back line.
The coaching staff remains unchanged. with I will be starting my 9th season and volunteer assistant coaches Stephanie Zacherl and Nicki Glenn returning for their 3rd season.
The team put forth an excellent week of preseason training, much of which was centered around conditioning. We finished the week with a scrimmage at home against DuBois on Saturday evening. After brushing off a shaky start, the team showed consistent improvement throughout the rest of the contest. A second scrimmage is scheduled at 4:00 on Friday, August 26th at Clarion High school against Keystone.
The regular season kicks off with a UAVSL South league matchup against Forest Area. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the C-L boys at Clarion-Limestone Stadium.
